Man who beat elderly couple gets 37 years
GEORGETOWN — A Stamping Ground man will serve 37 years for the burglary and assault of an elderly couple last year in Scott County. Scott County Circuit Judge Rob Johnson on Monday upheld a jury’s recommendation that Stanley Stander, 28, serve 30 years for burglary, robbery, assault and unlawful imprisonment, according to the circuit court clerk’s office. He will also serve seven years for charges stemming from a police pursuit. In May 2007, Stander stole a Chevrolet Impala and several items from Ralph and Mattie Michaels of Georgetown. After fleeing the couple’s residence, Stander led police on a chase into Northern Kentucky, where the pursuit ended when Stander crashed into a Grant County sheriff’s cruiser as he was trying to take a ramp onto Interstate 71.
