Richmond Crimes of the Day, Jan. 15-Jan. 20
The following is a list of crimes reported to the Richmond Police Department from Jan. 15 to Jan. 20.
Forgery: On 01/15/2009, the owner of Discount Tobacco, 908 E. Main Street, reported that a stolen check was cashed at his establishment on 01/01/2009 in the amount of $295.00. The victim reported that a male identifying himself as Michael Edward Lawson, Cumberland, KY, cashed the check, which was drawn on the account of Mid-South Metals of Campbellsville, Kentucky. Mid-South Metals previously reported the theft of a number of checks from their business. Larson also passed a similar check at Discount Tobacco on 01/04/2009 in the amount of $460.00.
Criminal Mischief: On 01/15/2009, a resident of an apartment in the 500 block of Ballard Drive reported that the rear window of his parked window had been broken out during the overnight hours. Estimated loss: $500.00
Attempted Theft: On 01/15/2009, the manager of an apartment building in the 1000 block of Brandy Lane reported that someone had damaged a number of washing machines in the basement laundry of the building while trying to access the coin boxes of the machines. The culprit was unable to gain access to the coin box. Estimated damage to machines: $200.00
Theft from Vehicle: On 01/16/2009, a patient at the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center reported the theft of groceries from his unlocked vehicle while he was receiving treatment at the hospital. Estimated loss: $50.00
Burglary of Residence: On 01/16/2009, a complainant reported that his mother’s house in the 800 block of E. Main Street had been burglarized and three firearms stolen. The burglary occurred between 12/28/2008 and 01/16/2009. Entry was gained by prying open the rear door. The stolen firearms were described as; a Ruger derringer, unknown caliber; a Smith & Wesson revolver, either .38 or .357 caliber; and a Franchi 12 gauge shotgun with a 26” barrel. Estimated loss: $2000.00
Theft from Vehicle: On 01/16/2009, a resident of the 1000 block of E. Main Street reported the theft of an Eclipse brand car stereo from the dash of his vehicle during the overnight hours. Estimated loss: $120.00
Theft from Residence: On 01/16/2009, a resident in the 1000 block of Highlands Drive reported the theft of a number of items from his residence. The victim reported having guests at his residence during the evening hours and when they departed at approximately 10:00 P.M., he noticed several items missing from his residence. The missing items included a blue iPod; a Tom Anderson custom made electric guitar, green in color; an Ibanez electric guitar, clear colored; and a pink Razr cellular telephone. Estimated loss: $12650.00
Burglary of Residence: On 01/16/2009, a resident of an apartment in the 900 block of Villa Drive reported that her apartment had been unlawfully entered. The victim reported that sometime during the midday hours, person(s) unknown entered her apartment and stole $300.00 in cash and a number of WIC vouchers. The apartment was also ransacked. There were no signs of forced entry.
Drug Arrest: On 01/16/2009, police arrested Brandy L. Turner, age 22, Armitage Road, Richmond, on drug charges following an encounter in the parking lot on N. Killarney Lane. Officer Chip Gray approached a vehicle stopped in the parking lot in which Brown was a passenger. During the contact, Officer Gray recovered 12 Ritalin tablets and a shortened straw with suspected drug residue in Turner’s purse. She was arrested and charged for Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Turner was lodged in the MCDC.
Theft: On 01/16/2009, a resident of an apartment in the 400 block of Mt. Rushmore Drive reported that his girlfriend had borrowed his computer on 01/10/2009 and was supposed to return it on 01/11/2009. Instead, she sold it to a local pawn shop. The victim further reported that the girlfriend has also taken his Xbox gaming system and pawned it to the same pawn shop. Investigation ongoing.
Four Arrested on Drug Charges: On 01/16/2009, members of the Richmond Police Narcotics Unit, assisted by the Kentucky State Police and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement officers, arrested four suspects and recovered 145 OxyContin pills that were packaged for sale. The four men occupied a vehicle that was stopped by officers. A search of the vehicle was undertaken after a drug dog alerted to the vehicle, indicating the presence of drugs. Officers then discovered the pills. All four men were charged for Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree. They were identified as follows:
– Darren Ray Kelly, age 35, Orchard Street, Richmond
– James Allen Newman, age 21, Richmond Road, Berea
– Chad Anthony King, age 25, East Rice Lane, Richmond
– Matthew Thomas King, age 23, Richmond Road, Irvine
All four were lodged in the MCDC.
Theft Charge: On 01/17/2009, police charged Joseph L. Rollins, age 32, Dixie Plaza, Richmond for Theft by Deception and Receiving Stolen Property under $300.00 in connection with the theft of an air compressor that occurred on 12/16/2008. The compressor was stolen from the back of a pickup truck that was parked at E.W. James in the University Shopping Center. Rollins then pawned the item at a local pawn shop.
Assault Arrest: On 01/17/2009, police arrested William D. Moore, age 29, Maple Hill Drive, Richmond, and charged him for Assault 2nd Degree following a domestic altercation. At 3:24 A.M., police were called to the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center to investigate a reported assault. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who indicated that Moore had assaulted her. The victim was suffering from a punctured lung, a broken rib and a ruptured ear drum. This was transferred to the UK Medical Center for further treatment. Officers located Moore and arrested him following an interview at the police department. He was lodged in the MCDC.
Criminal Mischief: On 01/17/2009, a resident of an apartment in the 800 block of Barry Court reported that the windshield of his vehicle had been broken during the overnight hours. Estimated loss: $500.00
Drug Arrest: On 01/17/2009, police arrested James E. Hudson, age 24, Somerset, KY, and charged him for drug violations following a traffic stop. Hudson was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on N. Killarney Lane for a traffic violation. It was subsequently learned that there was a warrant outstanding for his arrest from Harrodsburg, KY, for violating an Emergency Protection Order. A search of Hudson’s person produced a small amount of marijuana and a pipe. Hudson was charged for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was lodged in the MCDC.
Theft: On 01/17/2009, a patron of Walmart reported the theft of her purse from a shopping cart while in the store. The victim reported that her purse was in the top rack of the shopping cart. She stated that she looked away to retrieve an item and when she looked back, her purse had been taken. The purse contained numerous prescription medications, a Motorola cellular telephone and numerous items of personal identification. Estimated loss: $56.00
Assault Arrest: On 01/18/2009, police arrested a married couple following a domestic squabble in the 400 block of N. Keeneland Drive. Police were summoned to the residence on two separate occasions to investigate a report of a domestic altercation. At the second call, officers arrested both parties for Assault 4th Degree. Bruce A. Kelley, age 27, and Michelle D. Kelley, age 22, were lodged in the MCDC. Bruce Kelley was also charged for Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree on the strength of an outstanding arrest warrant.
Assault Arrest: On 01/18/2009, police arrested a couple following a domestic altercation at a residence in the 600 block of N. Third Street. Officers were summoned to the residence on two separate occasions to investigate the domestic disturbance. During the second call, both parties were arrested and charged for Assault 4th Degree. Melissa Parks, age30, and Christopher Carroll, age 33, were lodged in the MCDC.
Assault Arrest: On 01/18/2009, police arrested Kerry M. Thacker, age 21, Dixie Plaza, following a domestic disturbance at her residence. Officers were called to the residence to investigate the disturbance and learned that Thacker had assaulted her mother during the incident. Officers arrest Thacker for Assault 4th Degree, at which time she resisted officers and had to be subdued. She was further charged for Resisting Arrest and Terroristic Threatening. She was lodged in the MCDC.
Drug Arrest: On 01/18/2009, Richmond Police arrested two men after investigating a complaint of possible drug activity in the parking lot at the Redi-Mart on Irvine Road. Officers were dispatched to the business to investigate two suspicious vehicles that were parked on the property. Upon arrival, Officers Greg Marcum and Travis Bowles encountered Kenneth W. Hall, age 43, College Hill Road, Waco, and Lionel D. Shanks, age 44, Jacks Creek Road, Richmond, sitting in one of the vehicles. During a subsequent search of the two vehicles, officers recovered 50 Lortab pills, 13 oxycodone pills, five hydrocodone pills and a small amount of marijuana. Both men were arrested and charged as follows:
Hall – Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree
Prescription Controlled Substance not in Proper Container
Shanks – Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree
Possession of Marijuana
Both were lodged in the MCDC.
Theft from Residence: On 01/19/2009, a resident of an apartment in the 1000 block of Brandy Lane reported the theft of a number of items from her apartment. The victim reported that between 01/12/2009 and 01/19/2009, someone had removed the following items from her residence: a silver 2008 Hewlett-Packard computer; a black Canon printer; a white Hewlett-Packard scanner; a pink Sanyo 7.1 megapixel digital camera; and a blue camcorder. There were no signs of forced entry. Estimated loss: $597.00
Theft: On 01/20/2009, a Winchester resident reported the theft of $1000.00 in cash from her purse while with a friend in Richmond.
Burglary of Residence: On 01/20/2009, a resident in the 400 block of Letcher Avenue reported that her residence had been broken into during the overnight hours. Entry was gained to the residence by breaking a basement window. The following items were reported missing: Nintendo Wii gaming system; a Sanyo DVD/VCR combination player; and $390.00 in cash. Estimated loss: $729.00
